Our Philosophy

As the varsity soccer coaches for the Half Hollow Hills School District, we have developed our philosophy on soccer at the varsity level. This will show everyone what we expect for our teams and individual players

PLAY WITH AN EDGE: Energy, Determination, Guts and Effort
Preparation:
- Mental Preparation (30 minutes before game, visualize the game)
- Have goals as a team and individual for the season, and each game
- Upperclassmen are there to lead because of their experience
Practice:
- Be 10 minutes early to practice
- Give enough time for treatments and taping
- Provide full focus for the ENTIRE practice
- Have proper equipment (shin guards are a must)
- Game intensity during drills
- Full concentration
- Push each other, try to win a starting spot from a teammate
- Day after a hard fought game, lighter practice
- Stay fit (reduce body fat and increase endurance as season moves forward)

- Get in a good position to win head balls

Defensive:
- Stay as a unit
- Cover for one another
- Never lose sight of your man
- Press together

- Solid clearance of the ball
Offensive:
- Follow shots in towards the goalkeeper
- Stay onside
- Score the garbage goals (6 yards and in)
- Hit your passes
- Move without the ball
- Find a way to score
- Look for weaknesses in the defense
Physical:
- WIn each 50/50
- Run through the ball
- Block all crosses and shots
- WIn all Head Balls
- Be physical on set pieces
- Use shoulder to jaw guys off the ball
Game Day:
- Music real loud
- Intimidate the opposing team
- Bench must stay ready and focused
- Good body language on substitutions
- Subs- make a difference when you go in
- Positive energy
- Stay off referees
